A remarkable pair of vintage Egyptian revival drop earrings depicting two large scarab beetles decorated with twinkling glass pastes and a green lucite thorax with black veins, resembling malachite’s. They’re topped with a matching lucite sphere and tailed with bright, white cultured pearl droppers.
Egyptian style jewellery saw a revival in the 20th Century after an abundance of archaeological discoveries, most notably the discovery of King Tutankhamun’s tomb brought about a fascination and desire for Egyptian themed pieces across Europe. Scarabs were one of many popular motifs and were a symbol of renewal and rebirth in ancient Egypt.
The pair is fashioned in a golden base metal and fitted with secure lever back fittings. They’re distinct and eye-catching with the maker’s scarab shaped mark on the back.
